History of WEGG Radio

WEGG 710 AM was founded by Jeff Barnes Wilson and first took to the airwaves in August 1975, as "The Wonderful Egg," playing the best Country music of the day, later blending in Southern Gospel music, and programming like J. Vernon McGee's "Thru The Bible Radio" as well as local High School football. Another popular show on WEGG was "All Gospel For All People" featuring the best Gospel music, hosted by Charlie Robinson, who coined the slogan "Where Everybody Glorifies God" for the station. The call letters, WEGG, were an allusion to the North Carolina Poultry Jubilee, and the local landmark, "The World's Largest Frying Pan".

WEGG then had a variety of different identities throughout the late 90s and 2000s as Country-formatted "Country Bear 104.7 & 710" (simulcasting with WBSY, now WZUP), then becoming all Gospel, then Regional Mexican, then Fundamental Baptist, then Gospel once again, simulcasting with 98.3 WLGT in Washington and 104.5 WSTK in Aurora. Most recently, the station was known as "Your Christian Radio 710 & 95.9", airing a Traditional Black Gospel format, simulcasting with translator W240BN. Eventually, W240BN was relocated, changed frequencies, and sold; and is now Classical HQR 96.7 in Wilmington, NC. A new translator W263BE 100.5 FM was introduced in 2013.
